Vikrant Massey, who was basking in the success of his movie The Sabarmati Report, recently shocked his fans and friends in the fraternity with his decision to take a break from acting. Amid all this buzz, Vikrant's latest statement has made headlines, where he revealed how he was longing for validation from the industry as an actor, which he got only after the 12th Fail success.
Vikrant Massey On Validation From Bollywood
Vikrant in a recent interview with SCREEN shared that he feels lucky to be acting in the current time as the real stories are being presented. He stated, “I also realize that I am lucky to be acting in this time, especially in the last 10 years. There are far more real stories being written and watched by people. So I feel blessed to be a part of this time where relevant stories are being told, and I get to be a part of them."
Talking about his choice of movies, Vikrant continued “I choose layered characters because I don’t like unidimensional characters. All of us have so many layers as people also. I am not just an actor, but a son, a father, a brother, a husband, and also a friend to someone. There are so many things I am in my life. How can I be unidimensional?"
Vikrant also expressed how the success of 12th Fail validated him as an actor. He said “Validation from the industry has come in, and I was longing for it. I always backed myself and continue to do so, but it was very important for me, deep within me, I had this urge to be validated by more people and not just be labelled an alternate actor. 12th Fail’s commercial success was important to me. There are a lot more roles coming my way, and a lot of producers want to work with me now. I wanted that. I am happy, but I also know it’s all very temporary and people change with time. The idea is to keep working towards what your larger desires are and in my case, it is to be consistent with what I do as an actor."
Commenting on how he copes up with success and failures, Vikrant added, “My mechanism to deal with success and failure is the same. I don’t take either very seriously. Everything is so temporary in life. I have seen people change like the weather in success and failure. I move on very quickly and don’t sit with either for too long. The same things can change equally fast the moment you trip again and are back to where you began."

Vikrant Massey's Long Break Announcement
Vikrant on December 2 shared a long post on his Instagram handle, which read, "The last few years and beyond have been phenomenal. I thank each and every one of you for your indelible support. But as I move forward, I realize it's time to recalibrate and go back home. As a husband, father, and son. And also as an actor. So, in 2025, we will meet each other for one last time. Until the time deems right. Last two movies and many years of memories. Thank you again. For everything and everything in between. Forever indebted."
When he found out his recent post is being misunderstood and taken as an indication of retirement, Vikrant released a statement clarifying that he is not retiring from acting but taking a break.
His statement read, "Acting is all I can do. And it has given me everything I have. My physical and mental health have taken a hit. I just want to take some time off and better my craft. I feel a sense of monotony at the moment. My post has been misinterpreted, suggesting that I am quitting or retiring from acting. I want to take some time off to focus on my family and health. I will be back when the time feels right."
