Gurugram Air Pollution: AQI Touches 393; Toxic Smog Persists As Manesar And Cyber City Struggle For Breath

Air pollution in Gurugram and Manesar has reached dangerous levels, with Gurugram's AQI recorded at 393. Not a single day in the new year has had clean air, causing breathing difficulties for people. The main causes include the use of clay ovens at dhabas (roadside eateries), broken roads, the open burning of rubbish and negligence at construction sites. Experts have warned that the situation could worsen.

Air pollution in Gurugram and Manesar has once again reached dangerous levels. Notably, the air has not been clean for a single day in the new year so far. At 11 am on Tuesday, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Gurugram was recorded at 393, while in Manesar it reached 337. The air in both cities remains in the 'very poor' category. People are experiencing problems such as difficulty breathing, eye irritation, and sore throats. Despite the sunshine since morning, the pollution has not dispersed due to low wind speed.

Pollution From Eateries And Burning Of Fuels

Tandoors are being used at roadside eateries in the city and industrial areas. Wood and coal are being used in them, and the resulting smoke is making the air more toxic. Despite regulations, no action is being taken against them.

Dust Pollution And Road Conditions

Dust rising from broken roads is also a major cause of pollution. The condition of Sector 38, Sector 46, Pataudi Road, and Basai Road is particularly poor. Throughout the day, clouds of dust are kicked up by vehicle movement on these roads. Despite Pataudi Road being under the HSIIDC and Basai Road under the GMDA, arrangements for repair and dust control are inadequate.

Waste Burning And Industrial Emissions

Waste being burnt in the open Additionally, waste is being burnt in the open in several areas. In the industrial areas of Manesar, industrial waste is being set on fire. The toxic smoke from this is spreading to nearby residential areas, worsening the situation.

Construction Site Negligence And Expert Warnings

Despite the implementation of GRAP-IV rules, negligence is being observed at construction sites. Measures to prevent dust have not been taken at many construction sites. Experts say that if strict action is not taken against the sources of pollution, the situation could become more serious in the coming days.
