Drivers in Gurugram will now receive real-time information about road accidents and black spots directly on Google Maps. In collaboration with the Gurugram Traffic Police, Google has begun updating these alerts on its navigation platform, making Gurugram the first district in the country to receive this feature. The service will soon be launched in Noida and 10 other cities.

Gurugram records more than 1,000 road accidents and over 400 deaths every year. This year, nearly 350 fatalities have already been reported. To curb such incidents, the traffic police have introduced several measures, with the latest being this partnership with Google Maps.

Under the initiative, all black spots between the Sirhaul border and Kapriwas on NH-48 are now visible on the app. These alerts will enable drivers to slow down and navigate more safely in accident-prone stretches. Recently, 30 black spots were identified in the district using the Sanjaya App, developed jointly by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and IIT Chennai. Most of these spots lack on-ground signage, making digital warnings particularly useful.

Along with black spot alerts, Google Maps has also begun displaying the prescribed speed limits on 129 major roads in Gurugram. The app shows both the road’s speed limit and the vehicle’s current speed, turning yellow or red when limits are exceeded—helping motorists avoid overspeeding fines.
