In a major move to resolve persistent waterlogging issues in New Gurugram and along the Delhi-Jaipur Highway (NH-48), the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has awarded a contract for the construction of a master stormwater drain.
Project Overview
The project, estimated to cost Rs 104.95 crore, targets the area covering Sectors 76 to 80. It is a key component of the comprehensive master drainage plan prepared by the GMDA for the Gurugram-Manesar urban area.
Objective: To provide a permanent solution to waterlogging on the NH-48 service road and adjacent sector roads, which currently suffer due to an inadequate drainage system.
Design Strategy: The system is designed to utilise the natural gradient, allowing rainwater to flow easily via gravity into existing master drains along the Central Peripheral Road (CPR) and the Northern Peripheral Road (NPR). This will ensure effective drainage and protect major public infrastructure.
Phased Implementation
The construction will be executed in two distinct phases to ensure systematic coverage:
Phase One
- Scope: Construction of a master drain in Sectors 77 to 80 and along NH-48, spanning from Rampura Chowk to the NPR-NH-48 junction near Kherki Daula.
- Length: Approximately 13.86 kilometres of drainage network will be laid in this phase.

Phase Two
Scope: Construction will cover the road dividing Sectors 75A and 76, and the stretch from Manesar to Rampura Chowk. This phase is subject to land acquisition.
Length: This phase will involve developing an approximately 4.52-kilometre-long network.
Timeline
The entire project is scheduled for completion within 30 months (two and a half years), promising long-term relief for residents and commuters in this rapidly developing region.
