The Gurugram Police on Tuesday arrested a 25-year-old law graduate from Uttar Pradesh for allegedly circulating a false and inflammatory post on social media platform X. The post claimed that a Hindu woman had been gang-raped and murdered in Gurugram, a claim that police investigations proved to be entirely baseless.
The False Narrative
For approximately one week, a post was being circulated from the handle of a young man, alleging a brutal crime against a woman from a specific community within Gurugram.
According to a police spokesperson, authorities received information about the post circulating on the handle of one Shaurya Mishra on December 11.
Investigation: Upon verifying the claims, the Gurugram Police found the information to be false.
Intent: Authorities stated that the post was a deliberate act intended to disrupt social and religious harmony in the region.
Profile Of The Accused
The accused has been identified as Hariom Mishra (alias Shaurya Mishra), a resident of Charwa village in the Kaushambi district of Uttar Pradesh.
Background: Mishra is 25 years old and holds an LLB degree.
Confession: During questioning, Mishra stated that he had come across the post while browsing social media and decided to share it from his own X account. He admitted that despite knowing the post was objectionable and would hurt social and religious sentiments, he proceeded to share it.

Warning Ignored
The Cyber Police Station West, which registered the case, revealed that the accused was given an opportunity to rectify his actions before the arrest.
During the investigation, police contacted Mishra by phone and warned him to remove the objectionable content.
He was arrested on Tuesday after failing to delete the post despite the warning.
Police have recovered the mobile phone used to commit the offense.
