On Tuesday, the Special MP-MLA Court in Ghaziabad framed charges in two cases against Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) National Spokesperson Rakesh Tikait, along with several current and former MLAs and other accused. Following this, the court ordered the commencement of trial proceedings in the matter.

The accused appeared before the court of Special Judge (MP-MLA) Nishant Maan. Prominent figures present included Rakesh Tikait, former MLA Sudesh Sharma, former Minister Dalveer Singh, former MLAs Veerpal Rathi and Bhagwati Prasad, as well as Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) associates Amarjeet Singh and Ajay Pal.

The case dates back to 2014, when farmers, along with RLD and BKU activists, staged a protest at the Muradnagar Gangnahar (Upper Ganga Canal) to oppose the eviction of Chaudhary Ajit Singh from his official residence in Delhi. The protest led to a police lathi-charge, following which a case was registered against 36 individuals at the Muradnagar police station. After framing the charges against all the accused, the court has fixed January 2 as the date for the presentation of evidence.
