After nearly 1.5 years of construction, the pedestrian subway at Shankar Chowk has been completed and opened for public use. The underpass, built by the DLF Foundation between DLF Phase 3 and Cyber Park, has been made operational ahead of its official inauguration to provide immediate relief to pedestrians.

The subway is equipped with lifts on both sides of the road, ensuring accessibility for all, including the elderly and differently abled. It also features excellent lighting and a false ceiling, enhancing safety and convenience for users.

Officials believe that the use of the subway will significantly reduce the number of accidents reported each year at Shankar Chowk, a location that witnesses heavy vehicular movement on the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway. Hundreds of thousands of vehicles pass through this stretch daily, and traffic congestion, especially during morning and evening peak hours, has long been a major concern.

With several corporate offices located on both sides of the junction, thousands of working professionals were earlier forced to cross the busy road on foot, often risking their lives. The absence of a foot-overbridge or underpass has frequently led to traffic disruptions and serious accidents, with pedestrians losing their lives every year.

Traffic police and other departments have recently inspected the subway to review facilities and preparedness ahead of the formal inauguration, which is expected soon.

“The opening of this subway will not only help in reducing road accidents but will also ease traffic congestion at Shankar Chowk,” said Satyapal Yadav, ACP Traffic (Highway and Headquarters). “Pedestrians can now cross safely without disrupting traffic flow.”

Authorities are hopeful that the new facility will bring long-term relief to both pedestrians and commuters at one of Gurugram’s busiest junctions.
