After "Shivalik," another Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) carrier, "Nanda Devi", carrying 46,500 metric tonnes of gas, has reached Gujarat. The vessel arrived at Vadinar port on Tuesday. The Indian-flagged tanker had safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, March 14. While Nanda Devi was initially scheduled to reach Kandla port, it was diverted to Vadinar port. 

The development comes after the government informed about the passage of Nanda Devi from Hormuz, and its scheduled arrival on Tuesday, March 17. Nanda Devi's arrival is a part of the government's measure to maintain energy supply and fuel availability in the country. A press release from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, noted that appropriate measures are in place to ensure the safety of Indian vessels and seafarers operating in the region. Earlier on Sunday, LPG tanker Shivalik arrived at Mundra Port in Gujarat.

How Many Domestic Cylinders Can It Fill?

Nanda Devi is reportedly carrying 46,500 metric tonnes of LPG. The shipment is considered crucial for India's energy supply chain amid growing uncertainty over maritime routes. The LPG cargo on board can supply many households in India. The 46,500 metric tonnes, which is around 46 million kg of LPG, can fill approximately 3,274, 647 domestic cylinders. This calculation is based on the standard weight of domestic gas cylinders in India.

Total LPG: 46,500 Metric Tonnes = 46,500,000 kg
Standard Domestic Cylinder Weight= 14.2 kg.
Total cylinders it can fill: 46, 500, 000 kg/14.2 kg= 3,274, 647 cylinders.
