Airline Hand Baggage Rules: Air travel saves time and offers many advantages, but safety is paramount. That’s why strict security rules are enforced at every Indian airport, and all passengers must comply with them.

However, in haste or due to a lack of awareness, travellers often pack items in hand luggage that are removed or confiscated at security checks. This wastes time and can even cause missed flights.

If you're preparing for a trip, know what not to carry in hand luggage at Indian airports:

- Liquids Over 100ml

Carrying liquids more than 100ml in hand luggage is prohibited. This includes water, juice, perfume, cream, lotion and gels. Place larger containers in checked baggage. Only 100ml or smaller containers are allowed in hand luggage.

- Lighters Or Matches

For security reasons, lighters or matches are not permitted in hand luggage. They are considered flammable items that pose a risk to flight safety. It's best to leave them at home.

Knives, Scissors And Sharp Objects

Knives, scissors, blades, nail cutters or any sharp items are strictly banned in hand luggage. These are viewed as potential weapons. If essential, pack them in checked baggage.

Power Banks Over 160Wh

Power banks are essential for most travellers, but there is a limit. Power banks exceeding 160Wh capacity are prohibited in hand luggage and cannot be placed in checked baggage either. Always check capacity before purchase.

Sporting And Fitness Gear

Cricket bats, hockey sticks, golf clubs, dumbbells or other fitness equipment are not allowed in hand luggage. These are considered dangerous for security reasons. Always pack them in checked baggage.

Tools

Screwdrivers, hammers, wrenches, drill machines or similar tools cannot be carried in hand luggage. Being heavy and sharp, they must go in checked baggage.

Sprays

Deodorants, hair sprays, paint sprays or any aerosol sprays are restricted in hand luggage, especially in large quantities. Due to flammability, they are seen as a security risk.
