In a disturbing incident, a man was allegedly abducted, beaten and dragged after being tied to a scooter as he was unable to pay a loan of Rs 30,000 for a motorcycle purchase in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district. Police had arrested at least five people in connection to the incident. The victim has been identified as Yella Rajesh.

What's The Matter?

According to police officials, Rajesh had agreed to buy a motorcycle worth Rs 25,000 from a mechanic named V Mahesh. However, while taking a test ride on the vehicle, Rajesh accident rammed it to the constable’s car causing damage. Following this, Mahesh’s brother paid a sum of Rs 5,000 for the repair work of the car. Even as days passed, Rajesh was unable to repay the motorcycle cost and the expenses for the repair work.

As Rajesh was evading the payment for a few days, Mahesh, along with his friend L Sriram allegedly abducted him. The two then confined him inside a mechanic shed at Bhogapuram on September 5. Rajesh alleged that he wouldn’t be able to pay the loan immediately. Following this Mahesh, Sriram and three individuals identified as B Venkata Rao, N Govind and V Appa Rao allegedly assaulted him.

According to the police officials, the accused allegedly removed Rajesh’s shirt, tied ropes around his hands and neck, dragged him along the road and subsequently tied him to a scooter and pulled him behind the vehicle.

The matter came to light after a video of the assault surfaced and went viral on social media, following which the cops had taken action over the case.

Case Registered

Cops have registered cases against the five accused under relevant sections of BNS, including charges relating to kidnapping, attempt to murder and provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The accused individuals are expected to be produced before the court.
