A year after the high-profile Indore honeymoon murder case involving Raja Raghuvanshi, a similar incident has surfaced in Pune. In this case, a woman and her lover allegedly pushed her fiance off Lohagad Fort in Lonavala, resulting in his death.
What initially appeared to be an accidental fall of a young real estate businessman later turned into a murder investigation after police arrested his fiancée and her boyfriend. The victim had reportedly died after falling, but further investigation revealed it to be a planned murder.
The deceased has been identified as Ketan Vishal Agrawal (26), a resident of Gahunje in Maval taluka of Pune district. The accused are Siya Goyal (20), a resident of Bibwewadi in Market Yard, Pune, and her boyfriend Chetan Chaudhary (22). According to Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandip Singh Gill, who is leading the investigation, the incident occurred on June 18.
Bali trip and failed pre-wedding shoot
Police said Ketan and Siya were engaged in February 2026 and were scheduled to be married soon. In early June, they travelled to Bali for a pre-wedding shoot, but the trip was cancelled after Ketan’s passport reportedly went missing at Mumbai airport.
Later, when they were leaving home, there were four people in the car: Ketan, his sister, Siya, and Siya’s brother Sahil. During the journey, they checked their passports, foreign currency, credit cards, and driving licences, which were kept in a single pouch. They stopped at a food mall on the way. There, Siya said she had forgotten her mobile phone and went back alone to the car.
“Investigation revealed that Siya had taken Ketan’s passport and misplaced it so that they could not travel to Bali,” Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandip Singh Gill said.
The couple reached Mumbai airport, but the trip was cancelled after Ketan’s passport went missing. “After returning, they planned the next step,” Gill said.
Another failed plan at Lohagad Fort
As per Ketan’s father’s claims, a previous attempt had also been made during a trek on June 14, after the Bali trip was cancelled. He alleged that Siya tried to push Ketan off a height, but he managed to hold onto a tree and survived. She allegedly later told him she had done so to save him from a snake.
Pre-birthday outing turned fatal
After the Bali trip was cancelled, Siya later planned another outing on June 18 under the pretext of celebrating her birthday, which fell on June 19. She allegedly persuaded Ketan to join a “pre-birthday celebration” at Lohagad Fort.
According to the complaint filed by Ketan’s father, the couple went to the fort along with others, where Siya and her boyfriend Chetan allegedly pushed Ketan off a cliff.
Ketan left home around 8:20 am on June 18. Around 10:45 am, his family was informed that he had fallen into a valley near Lohagad Fort. Siya reportedly told police that strong winds caused Ketan to lose balance and fall nearly 400 feet into a gorge. The case was initially registered as an accidental death.
Inconsistencies in the story
SP Gill told reporters that the victim was an experienced trekker, making the possibility of an accidental fall less likely. He added that technical evidence, witness statements, confidential inputs, and analysis of call detail records (CDR) and IP detail records (IPDR) revealed inconsistencies in Siya’s statements.
Ketan’s father, Vishal Agrawal, said Siya’s behaviour after the incident raised immediate suspicion, as she showed no visible grief. The family later pieced together inconsistencies and approached the police.
During questioning, Siya claimed that Ketan slipped while taking photographs near the edge of the fort. However, investigators found gaps in her statement.
Conspiracy with boyfriend
Police investigation further revealed that Siya was in a relationship with Chetan and did not wish to proceed with her marriage to Ketan, which was scheduled for November. Authorities allege that after the earlier failed attempt, she involved her boyfriend in planning the final attack.
Officials said that once all three were present at Lohagad Fort, Ketan was assaulted and then pushed off the cliff.
“The two had known each other for about a year,” Gill said. “They conspired to execute this plan; at Lohagad Fort, they pushed Ketan Agarwal, causing him to fall to his death.”
Following a complaint by the victim’s father, police registered a case of murder and criminal conspiracy under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Both Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary have been produced before the court as the investigation continues.
