Bengaluru News: Bengaluru police have identified the prime suspect of the shocking murder of a woman, whose body was found in 50 pieces in her apartment's refrigerator, and efforts are being made to arrest him, city police chief B Dayanand said on Monday. The official further said that he is an outsider in the case, and no further information could be provided at the moment as it might help him.
"It is being investigated from all angles. The prime suspect has been identified and efforts are underway to arrest him," the police chief said. His statement came hours after Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara hinted at the possible identification of the Bengaluru murder suspect.
"The police have collected a lot of information, a lot of clues. One individual has also been... Unless we collect more information, we can't really say. He is from West Bengal, they say," he informed the reporters.
On being asked a question about the steps taken by the state government for women's safety, the Minister said that they had already taken many precautions for women's safety.
"We have already taken a lot of precautions for women's safety. We are very mindful about it," he said.
Earlier on Saturday, Bengaluru police discovered at least 50 pieces of a woman's body stuffed in a fridge at her Bengaluru one-room apartment, where she reportedly lived alone. According to reports which emerged so far, the woman, identified as Mahalakshmi was originally from another state but had been living in Karnataka.
While she used to work in a mall and her husband works in another city.

When the police found the pieces of Mahalakshmi's body, they were partially decomposed and infested with maggots. This led to the suspicion that she was probably killed and chopped two weeks ago.
The incident has also sparked a political controversy in the state, with BJP targeting the Congress-led government over the issues of women's safety and law and order in the state.
