Kolkata Rape-Murder:  Days after a forensic expert claimed that he was forced by an ex-councillor, who was a distant relative of the family of RG Kar rape and murder victim, to carry out the post-mortem process as soon as possible, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari revealed the identity of the person on Monday. The same forensic medicine expert was among the several people who were questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the rape and murder of a 31-year postgraduate trainee doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The latest development in the case came as the forensic expert was seen in a video claiming that a distant relative of the victim's family asked him to expedite the process of post-mortem. While speaking to reporters in Kolkata after CBI questioned him in connection to the case, he also revealed that the person was an ex-councillor.

BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari took to the social media website X to reveal the identity of the former councillor as Sanjib Mukherjee, who was alleged to have interfered in the post-mortem process.

“Who is this person? The person is Sanjib Mukherjee. He is the former CPIM Councillor of Panihati Municipality. He joined TMC later and became a close associate of Panihati TMC MLA Nirmal Ghosh,” Adhikari wrote in a long X post.

"Everyone knows that the victim was cremated in haste. The Police were monitoring the operations at the crematorium and there was an extraordinary hurry at the crematorium to dispose of the body," the BJP leader added.

"Panihati MLA; Nirmal Ghosh was himself present as per the instructions of Mamata Banerjee. Strangely, Sanjib Mukherjee is the signatory on the Cremation Certificate, without being the kin of the victim. There’s also another name/signature on the document – Somnath Dey. There is another former TMC Councillor of Panihati Municipality with the same name. Is he the same person?” He asked.

Meanwhile, as per an Indian Express report, staff at RG Kar MCH claimed that he was asked to cremate the body of the doctor on priority, a charge which was rejected by the police. Later, the parents of the victims also said that they wanted to keep the body but the post-mortem and cremation were done in haste.
