Bank branches in several parts of the country will remain closed for three days next week, as per the holiday calendar issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). According to the schedule, February 18, 19 and 20 have been marked as designated holidays in select states.
Bank Holidays from February 16-21:
- February 18 (Wednesday): Banks will remain shut in Sikkim on account of Losar, the Tibetan New Year.
- February 19 (Thursday): Bank branches in Maharashtra will be closed to mark Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti.
- February 20 (Friday): Banks will remain closed in Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram on the occasion of State Day/Statehood Day.
All scheduled and private sector banks across India observe holidays on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. Since February 21 does not fall on either, banks will remain open that day.
The RBI issues its annual holiday calendar under the provisions of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. While physical branches remain closed on notified holidays, digital banking services such as ATMs, UPI and internet banking continue to function without disruption.
Customers are advised to check branch-specific working hours before visiting, as timings may vary. The RBI’s official holiday list also includes Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) holidays and account-closing days, apart from regional public holidays that differ from state to state.
After February, the month of March will see 11 bank holidays as per the RBI calendar, including closures for Holi, Ramzan, Ram Navami and Mahavir Jayanti.
