Bengal Polls: With just a few days remaining in the West Bengal Assembly election, a major controversy erupted on Wednesday after the senior TMC leaders accused the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of misbehavior during a meeting. While talking to the reporters, senior TMC leader Derek O'Brien alleged that the CEC asked the delegation to "get lost" upon raising few objections. He further stated that the officials did not address the issues raised by the ruling party of Bengal.

O'Brien, while talking to the media, asserted that the delegation of TMC was asked to leave within seven minutes. "I want to tell you what the Chief Election Commissioner told us within seven minutes of the meeting. 'Get lost'--this is what the Chief Election Commissioner told the Trinamool Congress delegation. So we left. We are the second largest opposition party in Parliament," the TMC leader stated.

"What I saw today is a shame," he added. The TMC MP further dared the poll body to release audio or video of the meeting. However, the reports also suggest that O'Brien shouted at the CEC and asked him to not speak during the meeting. "CEC requested Mr Derek O'Brien to maintain the decorum of the commission room. Shouting and indecent behaviour is not appropriate," reported NDTV, citing the person familiar with the matter.

While the Election Commission has not responded to the allegations directly, in a post on X, it stated that the election in Bengal will be "free" and "fair". "Elections in West Bengal this time: Fear-free, Violence-free, Intimidation-free, Inducement-free, Raid-free, Booth and Source Jamming-free will they surely be," the post said.

However, the ruling party leaders, including O'Brien and Sagarika Ghose, said that the poll body's post is a "blatant lie". "None of this was said to the four member @AITCofficial delegation... Two lines were said to us by the Chief Election Commissioner Vanish Kumar. The first line: where is your authorised signatory? And the second most SHAMEFUL two words : "GET LOST," Ghose stated.
