Bengal Post Poll Violence: Days after facing embarrassing defeat in the West Bengal assembly polls, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has alleged that the BJP workers demolished the shops and a TMC office in Kolkata following their victory. The Mamata Banerjee-led party, in a post on X, accused the central forces of not interrupting during these incidents. The incidents reportedly occurred after the saffron party registered a landslide victory in Bengal by winning 207 of the 294 seats.
In its office, the TMC stated that while the BJP spoke of peace and trust during its campaign, its supporters created chaos near the New Market area. "BJP's 'Poriborton' has arrived, and it has arrived with a bulldozer. In an act of brazen hooliganism and gundagardi, mobs of BJP supporters went on a rampage near the New Market area, destroying shops and vandalising the Trinamool Congress party office," TMC said in its post.
"This is the celebration of a party that spoke of trust and delivered terror," the party added. It also alleged that the workers of the BJP have a license from the top brass to spread violence on the streets. "Narendra Modi and Amit Shah have handed their karyakartas a licence to let loose on the streets, to mow down whatever stands in their path, to attack, brutalise and kill whosoever they please," the party said.
Apart from this, in a separate post, party MP Mahua Moitra stated that the communal slogans were raised across the state even before the oath ceremony. "The communal slogans, the hate speech even before oath-taking should prepare Bengalis for the Parivartan ahead," Moitra stated in her post.
The TMC, after remaining in power for 15 years, lost to the BJP in the recently conducted polls. The incumbent party could only manage to win 80 seats, losing voters across the regions of the state.
