Bengaluru News: Bengaluru’s northern suburbs received traffic relief after the NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) opened the long-delayed service road at Jakkur. The stretch had remained incomplete for months, adding to congestion on a key route leading to Kempegowda International Airport. With the road now operational, traffic movement in the area is expected to improve.
Bengaluru Traffic: Relief For Daily Commuters
For years, residents of Sahakarnagar and Yelahanka struggled with heavy congestion at Jakkur, where local vehicles were forced to mix with fast-moving airport traffic. The new service road allows neighbourhood commuters to travel short distances without entering the main highway, reducing unsafe merges and delays.
The Deccan Herald report cited a cab driver who earlier said that even short trips meant entering high-speed lanes. “To go barely two kilometres, we had to risk merging with airport traffic,” he said, adding that the new road has made driving safer.
Traffic Police Response
Jayaprakash, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic, North), said the service road has reduced pressure on the main carriageway. He added that early observations show smoother peak-hour movement, as local traffic no longer spills onto the highway for short trips.
In separate news, a 26-year-old newly married woman died on Thursday night in Bengaluru, days after an alleged suicide attempt, police said. She had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital after being found hanging at her parents’ home in B Channasandra, under the limits of Ramamurthy Nagar police. Doctors said she was admitted in a critical condition and remained in a coma until her death.
Following the post-mortem, the woman’s relatives staged a protest outside her husband’s house in Vidyaranyapura, accusing his family of harassment. Police later intervened and dispersed the protest.
Based on a complaint filed by the woman’s father, police have registered a dowry death case against her husband Suraj and his family. He alleged that his daughter faced dowry-related harassment soon after her wedding on October 29, including pressure to host an expensive reception. Police said the accused are absconding and a search is under way.
