Bengaluru Dog Menace: Another horrific incident of the stray dog attack has occurred in Hoysala Nagar, near Ramamurthy Nagar, Bengaluru, in which a pack of over 15 dogs attacked a female student on Friday night. Meghna narrowly escaped the incident, yet she suffered minor injuries and was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The dog attack was captured on CCTV, which emerged on social media, creating a huge outrage on social media as many users questioned the safety of women and children.
According to locals, the pack of dogs suddenly attacked the girl when she was walking on the street while speaking on the phone. People nearby started shouting, after which the dogs ran away. The incident has created panic among residents and students in the area. Many are now afraid to even leave their homes.
Another Dog Bite Incident In Bengaluru
The dog attack comes just a few days after another incident in HSR Layout in South-East Bengaluru. In that incident, a woman was attacked by stray dogs, leaving her seriously injured. These frequent incidents have raised serious concerns about the growing number of stray dogs and their aggressiveness in the city.
Residents of Hoysala Nagar and surrounding areas have demanded the Municipal Corporation immediately address the stray dog problem. They stated that the policy of simply catching and releasing them is no longer working. Many are demanding the effective implementation of sterilisation programs and the removal of aggressive dogs. Incidents of stray dog attacks have been rising in Bengaluru over the past few months, raising concerns about safety among citizens.
SC Allows Euthanasia Of Dangerous Dogs
Earlier on May 19, the Supreme Court in a significant verdict allowed euthanasia of rabid, incurably ill, dangerous and aggressive dogs to curb threat to human lives, saying the right to live with dignity encompasses the right to move freely without the threat of harm from canines. In a first of its kind order, the top court ruled that when the safety and lives of human beings are weighed against the interests and welfare of sentient beings, the constitutional balance must necessarily and unequivocally tilt in favour of the preservation and protection of human life.
