Karnataka: At least two people injured including a child after unidentified people allegedly hurled stones at devotees pulling a temple chariot during a religious procession in Bengaluru’s Jagjeevan Ram Nagar area on Sunday night, police said to PTI. 

The incident took place during a procession from the Om Shakti temple when unidentified miscreants allegedly attacked the chariot mid-route. Police said a complaint has been filed stating that stones were thrown at the chariot. According to sources, a child suffered a head injury, while a young girl was also hit on the head during the incident.

After the incident, a large number of devotees assembled outside the Jagjivan Ram Nagar Police Station to voice their anger and demand swift action against the culprits. Protesters said similar disturbances had taken place in the past and pressed for the immediate registration of a case. Police confirmed that an FIR has been lodged and that a detailed probe is underway.

As tensions rose, West Division Deputy Commissioner of Police Yatish NB and Assistant Commissioner of Police Bharat Reddy visited the station to assess the situation. Hundreds of local residents and members of Hindu organisations joined the protest, accusing those involved of deliberately attempting to disturb communal harmony and disrupt a religious procession. They also complained of repeated harassment, alleging that their grievances had gone unaddressed for a long time.

“Necessary action will be taken against those involved once their identities are established,” police said, adding that the situation was under control.

Police have since tightened security in the area and said investigators are analysing CCTV footage and eyewitness statements as part of the ongoing inquiry.

In a separate incident, a week after violence erupted during an anti-encroachment drive, the Chomu administration in Jaipur demolished illegal structures near a mosque on Friday, allegedly linked to those involved in the unrest. 

The move followed the arrest of several accused, including individuals who had reportedly pelted stones during the earlier operation. Notices were served to 19–20 people before the municipal council carried out the demolitions, with police deployed to maintain law and order.

Pradeep Sharma, SHO of Chomu Police, stated the action was legal, targeting both encroachments and those involved in the violence. Health Inspector Sandeep Singh Kaviya confirmed notices had been issued three days prior, and removals began after deadlines expired. Local residents, including Shahid Pathan of Imam Chowk, welcomed the drive, citing problems caused by unauthorised shops and illegal structures that create public inconvenience and unhygienic conditions.
