Bengaluru: To enhance road safety and ensure smooth traffic movement, the Bengaluru Traffic Police have restricted certain categories of vehicles on the city's major flyovers and the elevated corridor leading to Kempegowda International Airport.

A ban on two-wheelers on the International Airport Road Elevated Corridor came into effect on Friday morning. Restrictions were also enforced on the BGS flyover, the Peenya Elevated Corridor, and the double-decker flyover between Silk Board and Ragigudda. Traffic authorities said that compliance across these routes will be monitored through CCTV cameras.

Two-Wheeler Ban On Electronic City Flyover From September 11

Starting Friday, September 11, two-wheelers will also be banned on the Electronic City flyover. This measure is part of the traffic department's wider restrictions on specific vehicle categories on selected elevated corridors.

Vehicle Restrictions On Other Major Corridors

- BGS Flyover: Goods vehicles, including three-wheelers, are banned during morning and evening peak hours, while heavy goods vehicles are prohibited throughout the day.

- Peenya Elevated Corridor: Auto-rickshaws are banned throughout the day, while goods vehicles are prohibited during peak hours.

- Other Affected Routes: Restrictions have also been imposed on the International Airport Road Elevated Corridor and the double-decker flyover connecting Silk Board to Ragigudda.

Police Cite Road Safety And Design Factors

Explaining the reasons behind the restrictions, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Karthik Reddy stated that several safety and design factors were considered before imposing the bans.

"Key factors considered while taking decisions on restrictions were road safety, road design and the width of the flyover, reducing the severity of accidents and mitigating traffic congestion caused by vehicle breakdowns," News18 quoted Reddy as saying.

He noted that the department also considered congestion at flyover entry and exit points and overall pedestrian safety.

"Other considerations included easing congestion at the entry and exit points of flyovers, traffic management during emergencies, the safety of pedestrians and two-wheeler riders, and a comprehensive road safety approach," Reddy added.
