Bengaluru News: Travelling from Kempegowda International Airport has become costlier for many passengers after space for state-run BMTC Vayu Vajra airport buses was sharply reduced at Terminal 1. Reduced space has led to longer wait times and congestion, forcing many travellers to opt for cabs, which can exceed Rs 1,000 compared to Rs 210-410 for the shuttle.
Once a smooth and affordable public transport option, the shuttle service is now caught between accessibility needs and commercial pressures.

Bengaluru Airport Cuts Bus Bay Space: What Does It Mean For Passengers?
Until recently, Vayu Vajra buses used to run from two full rows of dedicated bays at Terminal 1 of Kempegowda International Airport, with eight bays in each row, allowing multiple buses to operate simultaneously and keeping passenger flow smooth.
According to a Times of India report, that system has now changed. The Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) has removed one entire row of bus bays and handed over the space to private taxi operators, halving the space available for airport buses and causing longer waits for commuters.

With fewer bus bays available, Vayu Vajra buses are facing difficulty docking smoothly. Speaking to News18, a BMTC official said the congestion at Terminal 1 has increased, forcing buses to depart earlier than scheduled to make space for others.
These changes have led to longer wait times and confusion for passengers who rely on Vayu Vajra buses. Many travellers, particularly those arriving after long flights, are now choosing cabs instead, whereas a cab from the airport can exceed Rs 1,000 during peak hours or late at night, adding an extra expense for daily commuters.
