Jagran correspondent, Chapra: Following the violence during the Bihar Bandh in Chhapra on July 25, Saran Police have intensified efforts to identify those involved in the unrest. The police have released photographs of 97 suspected miscreants on social media and appealed to the public to help identify them.
The development comes after violent clashes broke out during protests over alleged examination irregularities and paper leaks. Demonstrators and police personnel reportedly confronted each other in several areas, leading to widespread disruption.
Separately, Jan Shakti Janata Dal (JSJD) chief Tej Pratap Yadav was arrested by Patna Police on Saturday, hours after he was detained and later released during protests held as part of the Bihar Bandh over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak. He was subsequently remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.
Violence During the Protest
According to police, several protesters allegedly attacked security personnel, vandalised government vehicles and public property, and assaulted civilians as well as media personnel using sticks, iron rods, bricks, and stones.
Officials said the accused are being identified through video footage, photographs, and other evidence collected from the protest.

Acting on the instructions of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vineet Kumar, Saran Police uploaded photographs of the 97 suspects on its official Facebook page. Each photograph has been assigned a serial number to facilitate identification.
Police have urged citizens to share information about anyone they recognise in the images, assuring that every lead will be verified before appropriate legal action is taken.

How Bihar Police Categorised the Suspects
According to Saran Police, the suspects have been classified based on their alleged roles during the violence:
- 21 suspects are accused of breaking police barricades.
- 11 suspects allegedly vandalised vehicles belonging to passers-by.
- 21 suspects are accused of damaging and setting government vehicles on fire.
- 12 suspects allegedly assaulted police personnel and participated in stone-pelting.
- 33 suspects are believed to have played an active role in the violent protest.
Police officials said the investigation is ongoing and that more suspects may be identified as the probe progresses.
Saran Police have appealed to residents to immediately report if they recognise any individual featured in the released photographs. Officials said public cooperation would help speed up the identification and arrest of those responsible for the violence and ensure strict legal action against anyone involved in disturbing law and order.
The police also assured that the identities of informants will be kept confidential.
