Jammu And Kashmir: In the wake of the recent increase in terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir, the union government has ordered the relocation of 2,000 troops of Border Security Force (BSF) from Odisha to the UT's volatile region along the Line of Control (LoC), ANI reported citing sources. The step is reportedly aimed at amping up the security of the region and countering the looming threats.
In response to growing security concerns, the government has swiftly ordered the redeployment of two BSF battalions, comprising over 2,000 personnel, from Odisha to Jammu. ANI Sources indicate that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued this directive to the force earlier this week.
This comes as Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a swift uptick in the terror activities. Many security personnel lost their lives in ongoing terror attacks. Terrorists have struck Reasi, Katua, Kulgam, Chinnigam and many other places in recent attacks. According to a recent report, over 50-60 trained Pakistani terrorists are currently active in the region.
Two battalions previously deployed in anti-Naxal operations in Odisha have now been reassigned to strengthen defences in the terror-affected Jammu region. Official sources, speaking anonymously to ANI, confirmed that this redeployment is intended to bolster the security framework and combat the ongoing threat of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
"By reallocating these forces, the government intends to provide a robust security presence and mitigate the risks posed by the persistent terror activities. The swift execution of this order underscores the urgency and importance of safeguarding the region and ensuring the safety of its inhabitants. Such movements of troops are also part of the force's strategic affairs that are taken from time to time as per the need," said the sources as quoted by ANI.
The Centre's move comes days after Director General of the BSF Nitin Agrawal on July 21 reviewed the operational readiness of the troops deployed at the Jammu International Border.
