Social media platform X has responded to the government notice over its AI handle, Grok AI, generating objectionable images of women without their consent.

X has told the Ministry of Electronic and Information Technology that it would take action against the users engaged in such activity, according to a report by The Indian Express.

X sent its response to the government on Wednesday, acknowledging the severity of the issue while iterating its commitment to take action against accounts creating such prompts on Grok AI.

The social media giant has given assurance to comply withthe  Information Technology Act, 2000, and other rules governing digital content.

What did X say?

As part of the action against the users, X has offered to take strict measures against them. These steps include permanently disabling such accounts. Besides, X has offered to provide a comprehensive demonstration of how its AI platform works.

What's next?

Although X has shown commitment to act against the inappropriate use of its AI platform, the government is reportedly 'not satisfied' with the response.

The Indian Express quoted a senior government official saying, "X has basically reiterated their stance that they will take action on users who prompt Grok AI to generate such images and videos. But there is very little assurance of any concrete changes to Grok’s responses itself."

The official added that the government is mulling next steps as it "can not be lenient when the dignity of women is in question."

While it was not specifically said about the next step, the options to legally pursue the issue are open with the government.

Recently, a disturbing trend started on X where users asked Grok AI to alter the images of women by changing their clothing patterns into a derogatory fashion without their consent.

The trend was widely criticised across social media platforms, with people objecting to the unchecked use of images to create objectionable content.

The issue was flagged by Shiv Sena UBT's Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi as she wrote to the government seeking action.

On January 2, the IT Ministry took note of the issue and sent a stern notice to the company, arguing that the trend was not in adherence to country's laws.
