A night out at a private bar in Chennai turned tragic after an altercation between two groups allegedly escalated into a deadly chase, leaving an 18-year-old woman dead.

Police have arrested three accused identified as Balamurugan aged 21, Joshwa (19), and Kishore Kumar (19). The deceased has been identified as Yancy, was an 18-year-old Sri Lankan refugee residing in Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram district.

According to police officials, Yancy had gone to a private bar with her friends, where an argument reportedly broke out between their group and another group of young men while they were dancing. The situation was initially brought under control after bouncers intervened.

However, tensions allegedly continued outside the bar, where security staff again asked both groups to leave the premises.

Police said that later, while Yancy and her friends were travelling on a two-wheeler, they allegedly came across the rival group travelling in a car. During the confrontation, Yancy’s friends allegedly threw stones at the vehicle.

Enraged by the incident, the group in the car allegedly chased the two-wheeler and rammed into it. The collision threw Yancy off the vehicle, killing her on the spot.

Her 17-year-old friend sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Following the incident, Yancy’s family demanded strict action against all those involved. Authorities have also sealed the private bar for allegedly allowing minors inside the premises.

Meanwhile, police have formed a special team to track down the remaining accused, who are currently absconding.
