Chennai-Bengaluru Expressway: In a major update for the commuters, the third phase of the Chennai-Bengaluru Expressway is nearing completion, and the operation is likely to begin in the later months of the year. While responding to a question in the Lok Sabha, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari stated that the construction on three packages of the project is nearly complete. However, he acknowledged that the work on one package has stalled due to financial issues faced by the concessionaire.
Gadkari, While providing details, stated that the work on the project spanning 106 km across Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh is 90 per cent complete. He further stated that the construction is being conducted in four phases, adding that the operation on three phases is set to begin in July. Gadkari stated that the work on one of the packages has been stalled since May 2025 due to the financial constraints. However, he assured that necessary steps were being taken to resolve the issue, adding that the construction is likely to resume soon.
"Out of total 4 packages, work is in progress in 3 packages (80.2 Km) with physical progress around 90 per cent and likely to be completed by July 2026. Work in the remaining package (25.5 Km) has stopped since May 2025 due to financial constraints of the Concessionaire. Substituting the Concessionaire is under process," Gadkari informed.
He further stated that the project faced delays in the initial days due to several reasons, including land acquisition hurdles, forest approvals, and shifting of utilities. Gadkari assured that all the issues have been resolved and the project will be finished within the deadline. "All these issues have since been resolved and as on date, no such issue is pending," Gadkari asserted.

The authorities have stated that the project will provide convenience to thousands of travelers by cutting the travel time and reducing the traffic congestion.
