Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region is set to witness an unprecedented Independence Day campaign this year, with the BJP planning to take its ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ initiative to remote areas that were once affected by Maoist violence.

The campaign will be held from August 11 to 15 and will be led by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM). A major focus will be on villages that have recently emerged from decades of Maoist influence, where the national flag is expected to be hoisted after years of being absent from the region.

According to state Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Vijay Sharma, the Tricolour will be hoisted for the first time in 33 villages of Bijapur, 50 villages of Sukma and nine villages of Narayanpur.

Over 2,000 Former Maoists To Join Tiranga Yatra

More than 2,000 former Maoists are also expected to participate in a Tiranga Yatra in Bastar. The government has described the campaign as a symbol of the return of peace and democratic values to areas once dominated by insurgency.

Remote locations such as Poorvarti, Silger and Darbha, which were previously considered Maoist strongholds, are being brought into the mainstream through the campaign.

The Centre had earlier announced that Maoist violence would be eliminated from Bastar and the rest of the country by March 31, 2026.

Tributes To Soldiers Who Died In Anti-Maoist Operations

As part of the campaign, BJP workers and BJYM members will visit the families of security personnel who lost their lives during anti-Maoist operations and honour them with the national flag.

On August 15, more than 500 schools, major intersections and community buildings across Bastar division are also planned to be named after martyrs.

State Deputy Chief Minister Arun Saw said the initiative would serve as a tribute to those who contributed to nation-building while promoting social harmony.

Tiranga Yatras Across Chhattisgarh

The campaign will extend beyond Bastar, with Tiranga Yatras planned across more than 450 BJP organisational units, gram panchayats, urban bodies and development block headquarters in the state.

Organisers have also appealed to people to take part in the ‘Digital Tiranga’ campaign by displaying the national flag at their homes and institutions and sharing photographs on social media.
