An IndiGo flight bound for Singapore with 127 passengers on board was forced to make an emergency return to Trichy International Airport on Friday evening following a technical malfunction.
The IndiGo flight from Trichy to Singapore was carrying 127 passengers leaving them anxious after it encountered an unexpected technical problem in the air shortly after takeoff.
The flight departed from Trichy at approximately 6:40 PM. Shortly after takeoff, the crew identified an unexpected technical issue and immediately alerted Trichy Air Traffic Control (ATC).
As per safety protocols, it is crucial to reduce an aircraft's weight and excess fuel before an emergency landing. Consequently, the pilots circled in the air to burn off fuel and ensure a safe landing.
Trichy Airport Director Gopalakrishnan stated that airport officials and ATC remained in constant contact with the pilots throughout the process. After full emergency services and security arrangements were put in place on the ground, the aircraft landed safely at Trichy Airport at around 9:00 PM.
Following the landing, an alternative aircraft was immediately arranged to transport the affected passengers to their destination.
Although IndiGo has not specified the exact nature of the technical fault, this marks the second such incident involving an IndiGo flight in recent days. Just a day prior, on Thursday (August 20), a Delhi-to-Mangaluru IndiGo flight also experienced a technical glitch while taxiing on the runway.
