In order to contain the spread of the virus, the government has imposed a nation-wide lockdown for 21 days and has urged people to avoid all ‘non-essential’ travel.

In an address to the nation on Tuesday evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the lockdown will be applicable to everyone.  PM Modi, however, said people need not panic about availability of essential commodities and medicines during the 21-day nationwide lockdown as the Centre and various state governments will work together to ensure this.

The Centre has put in place a provision of Rs 15,000 crore for treating coronavirus patients and strengthening medical infrastructure in the country and has suspended all domestic airlines, rail services and inter-state bus services to contain the infection.

The government has also asked state governments to take strict action against those violating the rules and also start placing orders for equipment needed to combat against the virus.

“The state governments have been ordered to place their requirements for equipment to combat coronavirus,” Health Ministry spokesperson said.
