Jammu Kashmir: In April, four long-distance trains, including two Vande Bharat Express services operating between New Delhi and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (SMVD) Katra, will resume their services.

However, the cancellation of 20 trains will continue for an additional two to three months, as confirmed by an official statement from the Jammu division of Northern Railway. The statement also revealed that 14 trains in the Jammu division will continue to operate, albeit with shortened termini or origination points, due to operational constraints.

According to Daily Excelsior, the Vande Bharat Express services between New Delhi and SMVD Katra, in both directions, are expected to be restored starting from April 2.

Furthermore, train services between Bhagat Ki Kothi railway station in Rajasthan and Jammu Tawi railway station will recommence on 1st April, with the return service beginning the following day.

The extended cancellations include a range of long-distance services, such as Garib Rath, Duronto, Humsafar, Janmabhoomi Express, and several other Vande Bharat, mail, and superfast trains. These services are now slated for restoration between late May and early June, according to the official statement.

Additionally, the period of short-terminations and short-originations has been extended for several services, including Jammu Mail, Durg-MCTM Express, Kota-MCTM Weekly Express, and the Ahmedabad-SMVD Katra train.

Travellers have been advised to check the latest updates regarding their train services via the official Indian Railways website or helplines before setting out.

Following heavy rainfall that caused significant damage to railway tracks and bridges last August, over 50 trains were suspended or had their routes shortened. Since then, most of the disrupted services have been reinstated.

Railway officials have stated that regular assessments of various railway sections are being conducted to ensure safety, with train operations being gradually restored.
