A video from the Kalkaji Metro station in Delhi is causing a stir on the internet, where an old man was accused of urinating inside the metro lift even as two women stood there. Deepshika Mehta posted the video on Instagram and mentioned it had 'shocked' and made her uncomfortable.
“Imagine entering a metro lift and seeing a man casually peeing inside it in front of two girls. This happened at Kalkaji Metro Station,” she wrote in the caption of her viral post.

According to Mehta, she later confronted the man on the platform, but he allegedly responded, “Tum karlo jo karna hai” (“Do what you want”).
The video, which soon went viral across social media sites, prompted discussion on civic nature, women's security and the cleanliness of the public transport system.
The police, meanwhile, have confirmed that the old man was dealing with a medical emergency at the time. The matter was being investigated by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Metro) once the clip became viral.
The incident had occurred around 9:40 pm on May 15, 2026. As per the police statement, the man was travelling from Jamia Metro Station to Faridabad Metro Station and encountered the problem while changing trains at Kalkaji Metro Station.
“The matter has been enquired from DCP Metro. As per the report, on 15.05.2026 at around 9:40 PM, the old person seen in the viral video was travelling from Jamia Metro Station to Faridabad Metro Station. During interchange at Kalkaji Metro Station, he reportedly faced a medical emergency and, despite trying to locate a nearby toilet facility, was unable to do so, and when the situation went beyond control, he had to urinate in a bottle while he was in the lift,” Delhi police wrote in the comment section of the viral video.
“Some passengers objected and informed CISF/DMRC staff, following which necessary action was taken. The individual was penalised by DMRC under Section 59 of the DMRC Act for creating a nuisance,” the statement added.
“Necessary action has been taken in this matter. DMRC requests all passengers to cooperate with us in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene within the Delhi Metro premises,” DMRC said in the comment section.
The DMRC confirmed that action was initiated and requested commuters to assist in keeping the metro premises clean and hygienic. The video is widely circulating online, now with over 20 lakh views, with users split on their views on the incident.

While many slammed the incident as an inappropriate and unsafe gesture, some users believed the incident pointed to a serious issue: a lack of adequate public toilets at heavy metro interchange points, particularly at late hours of the night.
In a follow-up video, Mehta said that even during a medical emergency, “basic civic sense” should not be ignored. She also spoke about creating awareness around adult diapers for elderly people facing such situations.
“I intended to create awareness about public safety and basic civic behaviour. No one should feel uncomfortable or unsafe while using public transport,” she said.
