A major protest erupted outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Tuesday following the brutal lynching of a Hindu man by an Islamist mob in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh last week. The demonstration is being led by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal to denounce alleged atrocities against Hindus and the vandalism of their religious places in Bangladesh.

As a precautionary measure, Delhi Police have stepped up security in the area. Visuals showed protesters breaking barricades and clashing with police, prompting a lathi charge. Workers of the VHP and other Hindu organisations are participating in the protest. Several demonstrators were also seen holding banners and placards and raising slogans, demanding justice for Dipu Das.

Security agencies had been on alert in advance, anticipating the demonstration. Tight security arrangements have been put in place outside the Bangladesh High Commission to prevent any untoward incident.

“I’ll also be a Dipu, and you’ll also be a Dipu if we don’t raise our voice today,” a protester said.

According to an official statement issued in Dhaka on Tuesday, Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry raised strong objections to incidents that took place outside the perimeter of the Bangladesh High Commission and the official residence in New Delhi on December 20, as well as acts of vandalism at the Bangladesh Visa Centre in Siliguri on December 22. “The unjustifiable incident at the Bangladesh High Commission residence in New Delhi on December 20, 2025, is highly regrettable,” the statement said.

Bangladesh Hindu Man Lynched

Dipu Chandra Das, a 25-year-old garment factory worker, was lynched by a mob and his body was set on fire over alleged blasphemy in Baluka, Mymensingh, on December 19. At least 12 people have been arrested in connection with the killing.

Dhaka Halts Visa Services Amid Protests

Bangladesh has suspended visa services at its High Commission in New Delhi and at its missions in Tripura and Siliguri, citing “unavoidable circumstances,” amid protests outside its diplomatic premises. The decision comes days after India temporarily halted visa operations at its Chittagong mission following an attempt by protesters to breach the compound.
