Delhi Cabinet Minister Atishi accused the BJP-led central government of orchestrating a political conspiracy aimed at imposing the President's Rule in the national capital. She asserted that Arvind Kejriwal's recent arrest is part of this alleged plot to destabilise his government. The AAP leader also emphasised that any attempt to impose the President's Rule would be illegal and against the mandate of the people.
"Arvind Kejriwal's arrest is a political conspiracy to topple his government. We have learnt from reliable sources that in the coming days, the President's Rule will be imposed in Delhi. But imposing President's Rule in Delhi will be illegal and against the mandate of people," she said while addressing a press conference.
In response to Atishi's claim, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said it was surprising that the "fear of President's Rule" was haunting the Aam Aadmi Party, which has 62 MLAs in the Assembly. Sachdeva also demanded the resignation of Kejriwal from the post of chief minister.
Earlier in the press address, Atishi claimed that many events have happened in recent times which indicate the possibility of the imposition of the President's Rule in the national capital. In the last few months, no senior IAS officer has been posted in Delhi, she alleged. "Posts are lying vacant in departments but no postings have taken place. Bureaucrats have stopped attending meetings called by ministers, citing the Model Code of Conduct. The lieutenant governor has been writing letters to the MHA over the functioning of the Delhi government," she alleged.
She went on further alleging that the BJP, recognising its inability to secure power in Delhi through democratic means, is resorting to tactics to undermine the elected government. She reaffirmed the AAP's majority in the Assembly and stressed that the government had proven its legitimacy through a successful floor test earlier in the year.
However, Sachdeva criticised Atishi's allegations, saying Kejriwal's concerns may stem from the recent rebuke by the Delhi High Court. He dismissed Atishi's claims as part of a fabricated narrative and said the AAP supremo should step down to allow for effective governance in Delhi.
