Following the January 30, 2026, release of a massive trove of documents related to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation by the US Department of Justice, social media has been flooded with misinformation. Among the most viral posts are two photographs allegedly showing Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi with the late convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.
Vishvas News investigated these claims and found them to be entirely false. The images were created using Artificial Intelligence and have no connection to the official Epstein files.
What's going viral?
Multiple social media accounts, including Instagram user 'nehasinghrathoresupporter' and X (formerly Twitter) user 'MR.Anil', shared images (archive link) in early February 2026 claiming they were part of the newly released Epstein Files.
The Modi Photo: Shows the PM with a woman and Epstein, with a caption suggesting a ‘truth’ about his relationship with America.
The Rahul Gandhi Photo: Features Congress leader in a similar setting with Epstein.
Investigation
To verify the viral claim, we conducted a keyword search on Google, but couldn't find any related news reports. If such a photo of PM Modi and Rahul had surfaced, there would certainly have been a news report related to it. We then searched the photo using Google Lens, but found nothing.
A close inspection of the photos revealed several red flags common in AI generation. In the photo featuring PM Modi, the background behind him resembles a library, while the side featuring Epstein appears to be a park, a clear sign of ‘hallucinated’ or merged backgrounds.
Investigating PM Modi's Photo
We checked it with the AI detection tool 'hugging face', which showed a 100% probability of the photo being AI-created.
We also used another tool, 'decopy', which also suggested the image was AI-created.
Investigating Rahul Gandhi's Photo
Continuing our investigation, we also examined Rahul's photo using another AI detection tool, 'undetectable', which confirmed the photo was AI-created.
We also used Google DeepMind's Synth ID tool. Searching the viral image here revealed that the image was created with AI. The results can be seen below.
For more information, we shared the viral post with Azahar Machwe, an expert in AI technology. He told us that the image was created with the help of an AI tool.
What are the Epstein Files?
The US Justice Department has released millions of pages of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, convicted of sex crimes. Reports indicate that these files include text, videos, and photos, and mention numerous influential figures.
According to a BBC report, "Epstein died in 2019, but even six years after his death, Epstein's files continue to be a source of concern for governments, politicians, businessmen, and prominent figures around the world."
The report further states, "Three million new documents related to the Epstein Files have been released. Some material, including photographs, has already been declassified. Previously, the committee received thousands of documents from Epstein's estate, mostly emails."
Finally, we scanned the account of the Instagram user who shared the photo with the false claim. We found that the user is followed by over 100,000 people.
Conclusion: Vishvas News investigated and found that the claim regarding the viral photo of PM Modi and Rahul Gandhi is false. In fact, the viral photos of PM Modi and Rahul Gandhi were created using AI and are now being shared with the false claim.
