Solar Eclipse February 2026: The first solar eclipse of 2026 is set to occur in just a few days. This annual celestial phenomenon, also known as the Surya Grahan, happens when the Moon moves in front of the Sun, obscuring its centre while leaving a bright outer ring of light. This year, the event is scheduled for February 17.
An annular solar eclipse occurs when the Moon is at its farthest distance from the Earth. Being smaller in size than the Sun, it cannot cover the Sun completely, resulting in a luminous ring known as the ‘ring of fire’.
The path of annularity for this eclipse is expected to cross East Antarctica.
Solar Eclipse February 2026: Will the eclipse be visible from India?
The solar eclipse on February 17 will not be visible from India. However, partial phases of the event can be observed across southern Argentina, Chile, parts of South Africa, and nearby oceans, according to a report by The Sunday Guardian.

Solar Eclipse February 2026: What time Will Eclipse Be Visible?
The eclipse is predicted to last for around 2 minutes and 20 seconds, beginning at approximately 07:01 UTC, which corresponds to 12:31 pm IST.
