Jodhpur | Jagran News Desk: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday made a scathing at opposition over the protests against the amended Citizenship Act (CAA) and said that Congress is spreading lies against the controversial act. He also dared Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for a debate on the Citizenship Act and said that the government will not budge an inch on its decision to implement the Citizenship Amendment Act despite the opposition criticism of the law.

Addressing a pro-CAA rally in Jodhpur, Amit Shah said that for vote-bank politics, Congress is speaking against a great personality like Veer Savarkar as well and the grand old party should be ashamed for this.

“Even if all these parties come together, BJP will not move back even an inch on this issue of Citizenship (Amendment) Act. You can spread as much misinformation as you want,” Shah said.

“Rahul Baba, if you have read the law please come anywhere for a debate on it. If you haven't read the law, I can help you with an Italian translation of it, please read the law,” Shah added.

Launching an “awareness programme” in support of the amended citizenship law, Shah said that the amended law does not take away Indian citizenship from anyone but grants citizenship.

“CAA is a law to grant citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists, Christians, who have been persecuted on the basis of religion, from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Opposition should unite against it, but BJP will not back an inch on this decision,” Shah said.

Shah further said that many atrocities have been inflicted on refugees who have come to India and they have no place to live now.

Violent protests erupted across the country against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act with protesters demanding an immediate withdrawal of the controversial act from the government and therefore Shah addressed a rally to gather support in favour of the controversial act.

This is the second rally of Shah being organised to support CAA as the first rally was organised in Kolkata. 30 such rallies are to be addressed by Shah to make people aware of the CAA.

The Citizenship (Amendment) Act seeks to grant Indian citizenship to people of Jain, Sikhs, Christian, Buddhist and Hindu communities who are facing religious atrocities in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
