A video circulating online shows senior female students allegedly ragging a junior female student at a university in Greater Noida. The footage is reportedly from Bennett University. In the video, a group of senior girls is seen surrounding a junior student and verbally abusing her. One of the girls, wearing a black top, is also seen pulling the junior’s hair and repeatedly slapping her.
Following the broadcast of the video, students have expressed serious concerns about safety. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Greater Noida unit attended the university and submitted a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor and administration expressing concern over the incident. They have also demanded fair investigation into the matter.
Demand For Strict Action
The organisation demanded that the culprits be identified quickly and strict disciplinary action be taken against them to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future. National Minister Kasma Sharma and State Minister Gaurav Gaur said that it is essential to ensure a safe, respectful, and fear-free environment in universities. Such incidents affect student morale, so the administration should take prompt and effective action.
He warned that if appropriate action is not taken in a timely manner, the organisation will be forced to escalate the issue. Hitakshi Thakral, state convener and vice president of the Savishkar University unit, urged Registrar Ajay Yadav to strengthen the anti-ragging system. Monitoring systems should be strengthened, and concrete, long-term steps should be taken to ensure the safety of students.
“The video circulating on the internet is said to be around 10 to 12 days old. The police have not yet received any complaint from either the university management or the victim. The university has formed an internal committee. After the report is released, action will be taken against the guilty students based on the facts,” said Prashali Gangwar, ACP Dadri.
