The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested eight alleged members of the banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) from various districts of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. The accused were allegedly attempting to establish a terror network in the state and plotting attacks in Gujarat and other parts of India, officials said.

The accused were arrested from Patan, Banaskantha and Navsari districts in Gujarat, while one suspect, Bilal Durrani Ghaghra, was arrested from Dewas in Madhya Pradesh. 

As per the ATS, the arrested individuals were allegedly working on behalf of the JeM to establish its presence in Gujarat, to recruit members, propagate extremist ideologies, and establish a network of support, which can be utilised for terrorist activities in the future.

1. Ahmed Abdullah Gajiwala @ Abu Ubaida (19 years) - r/o Bhagal, Palanpur, Banaskantha

2. Ibrahim Mohammad Husen Ghagha @ Abu Hamza (30 years) - r/o Bhagal, Palanpur, Banaskantha

3. Mudassir Abdullah Ghaziwala @ Abu Aya (22 years) - r/o Bhagal, Palanpur, Banaskantha

4. Zakariya Durani Mohammad Ammar Ghagha @ Ibn Ammar @ Zakariya Palanpuri (21 years) - r/o Jamia Abul Hasan Madrasa, Khadiyasana, Siddhpur, Patan

5. Mufti Faujan Ismail Dauwa @ Mufti Sahab (40 years) - Jamia Abul Hasan Madrasa, Khadiyasana, Siddhpur, Patan

6. Mohammad Amin Shera @ Amin Palanpuri (21 years) - Jamia Abul Hasan Madrasa, Khadiyasana, Siddhpur, Patan

7. Mohammad Abdul Rahman Savdi @ Mohammad Palanpuri @ Abu Unisa (22 years) - Jamia Rahmaniya Khambhiya, Ambheta, Chikhli, Navsari

8. Bilal Durani Mohammad Ammar Ghagha @ Abu Dujana @ Abu Sufiyan @ Abu Zundal @ Umar bin Khattab (18 years) - Warsi Nagar, Dewas, Madhya Pradesh

Alleged JeM module under investigation

During the investigation, the ATS alleged that the accused were in touch with Pakistan-based JeM associates through online platforms and were sharing information related to terrorist activities and the creation of sleeper cells. Preliminary interrogation suggested that the group was allegedly trying to establish a JeM network in Gujarat as part of a larger terror conspiracy.

The suspects are residents of Banaskantha, Patan and Navsari districts of Gujarat, and Dewas in Madhya Pradesh.

The ATS also said that three of the arrested individuals were associated with religious seminaries in Siddhpur and Chikhli. 

According to the Gujarat ATS, a case has been registered against all eight accused under sections 13, 17, 18, 38, 39 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 1967 and section 148, 61 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023.

A probe is underway to map the larger network, alleged funding channels, recruitment, contacts, and whether the suspects were part of a bigger conspiracy of a terror module, police officials said. The ATS is also investigating if the arrested men had links with any other operative or outfit.
