Ahmedabad: The Jamnagar Police have arrested a woman and her alleged lover in connection with the murder of her husband, who went missing nearly two years ago. Police revealed that the duo allegedly laced the victim's alcohol with cyanide and later buried his body beneath the floor of an industrial unit to conceal the crime.
How The Crime Unfolded?
The deceased has been identified as Jignesh Dharmeshbhai Mavadia, who went missing two years ago. A missing person complaint was filed at the City B Division police station.
According to a report by NDTV, Jignesh's wife, Prithvi, was having an affair with Nilesh Mansukhbhai Kachetia. Viewing Jignesh as an 'obstacle', the duo allegedly conspired to eliminate him. The accused allegedly mixed cyanide into Jignesh's alcohol and served it to him, resulting in his death. Following the murder, the duo allegedly dug a pit nearly 12 feet deep inside a factory located in the Dared industrial area and buried the body to destroy evidence.
How The Wife Covered Up Murder?
Following the murder, Prithvi reportedly convinced her husband's family that Jignesh had moved to Australia for a job. She claimed the company where he allegedly worked did not allow employees to use mobile phones, using the cover story to mislead his relatives and conceal the crime for nearly two years.
How The Incident Came To Light
The cover-up began to unravel when the victim's brother, Ashok Mavadia, repeatedly insisted on speaking directly to Jignesh. Prithvi became frightened when Ashok urged her to approach the police regarding the matter.
Subsequently, the police began an investigation, and the entire conspiracy was exposed. Acting on information provided by the accused during interrogation, authorities began excavating the factory floor. In the presence of a forensic team, human remains were recovered from the site.
Police have registered a murder case against Prithvi and her lover, Nilesh Kachetia. Further evidence will be gathered following a scientific and forensic examination of the remains.
