Gurugram Metro Expansion: The Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has reportedly started the process of land identification for the construction of the second phase. The authority is seeking details from the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) and is likely to make an announcement soon. While the first phase of the Gurugram Metro connects Millennium City Centre to Sector 9, phases two and three will link Sector 9 to Cyber Hub. The expansion of metro services will significantly boost the regional connectivity and improve the financial activities. It will provide relief to thousands of commuters by cutting the travel time and reducing traffic congestion.
The GMRL has identified several sites, including Sector 7, Sector 4, Sector 5, Ashok Vihar, Sector 3, Bajghera, Palam Vihar Extension, Palam Vihar, and Sector 23A for the second phase. The metro is being designed to connect the residential areas to the IT parks and industrial sectors to boost the connectivity. While providing details, the authority had stated that most of the stations in the second phase will be located along the central median of roads to ensure smooth construction activities.

The metro authority has approached HSVP to initiate the next steps in the land acquisition process. While the concerned authorities will clear the government lands, privately owned land will be acquired through negotiations. The GMRL has urged the HSVP to initiate the process soon to ensure that the construction begins in the upcoming months.
Apart from this, the authority is planning to connect the Old Gurugram railway station with the metro network as part of a broader push to improve public transport and ease chronic traffic congestion in the area. “A feasibility study will be conducted to connect the railway station to the metro station and further to the Dwarka Expressway. A consultant will be appointed for this purpose,” an official stated.
