Jagran Team, New Delhi: The continuous heavy rainfall has wreaked havoc across the nation, claiming several lives and causing significant damage to the infrastructure. While the hilly regions of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir have witnessed landslides and incidents of cloudbursts, the plain states like Assam have been dealing with a severe flood-like situation for the past week.
Uttarakhand: Char Dham Yatra Suspended
Earlier on Tuesday, the Uttarakhand government suspended the auspicious Char Dham Yatra for the next two days due to the heavy rainfall. Garhwal Division Commissioner Anand Swaroop stated that the pilgrimages have been asked to not travel, adding that the resumption of the pilgrimage shall be considered on Thursday, depending on the weather conditions.
Deaths and Infra Damage in Hilly Regions
Five members of a family died in Himachal Pradesh after a car skidded off the Pathankot-Bharmaur National Highway and fell into a deep gorge at Lahad. The officials on Tuesday stated that 108 roads have been closed due to the landslides amid heavy rainfall in Himachal.
Apart from this, a cloudburst in the Bandipora district in north Kashmir caused flash floods in low-lying areas, leading to the isolation of several villages. The officials stated that flooding in Kashmir has threatened residential homes, agricultural land, and local infrastructure.
Assam Floods
Earlier on Tuesday, seven more people died in Assam due to the floods, taking the total death toll to 75. While the intensity of the flood has reduced in several regions, around 3.32 lakh people are still affected due to the continuous rains.
Student Dies In Bulandshahr
A girl student died in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr on Tuesday after falling into an open drain, the officials informed. They further stated that the city has witnessed severe waterlogging due to the heavy rain, adding that action will be taken against those responsible.
