State Bureau, New Delhi: Heavy rain made Tuesday the capital's rainiest day of the year so far and its coldest July day in three years. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature dropped to 28.7 degrees Celsius, 9.1 degrees lower than Monday's high and the lowest recorded in July since July 8, 2023.

While the rain provided relief from humidity and brought down the temperature, it triggered widespread waterlogging and disrupted daily life across the national capital. In view of the conditions, the IMD initially issued a Yellow Alert, which was later upgraded to an Orange Alert, with Red Alert conditions in a few areas.

Delhi Sees Coldest July Day Since 2023

Persistent cloud cover throughout the day led to a sharp nine-degree drop in Delhi's maximum temperature on Tuesday.

According to data from the Meteorological Department, the capital's maximum temperature fell to 28.7 degrees Celsius, 5.6 degrees below normal and 9.1 degrees Celsius lower than Monday's high. This is the lowest maximum temperature recorded in July since July 8, 2023, when the reading stood at 28.7 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the minimum temperature settled at 25.5 degrees Celsius, 1.8 degrees below normal, while relative humidity remained high between 94 per cent and 100 per cent.

75.2 mm Rain In 12 Hours

Delhi recorded 72 mm of rainfall in 12 hours between 5:30 AM and 5:30 PM on Tuesday, with the heaviest spell recorded in the middle of the day.

According to data, the city recorded 51.0 mm of rainfall between 11:30 AM and 2:30 PM. During the same three-hour period, Pusa registered 80 mm of rainfall, followed by Janakpuri at 72 mm and Lodhi Road at 63.4 mm.

IMD Issues Yellow Alert For Next Two Days

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Wednesday and Thursday, forecasting generally cloudy skies with moderate rain on both days. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 32 to 33 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to settle around 23 degrees Celsius.
