Himachal Weather: The weather in Himachal Pradesh has taken a sudden turn, with Shimla and Manali witnessing season’s first snowfall. Rain activity has begun in Kangra, while strong winds have been lashing Shimla since late last night. Continuous rainfall in Chamba has disrupted normal life, with power supply affected in several areas.
Meanwhile, a cold wave swept through Barthi, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Una, Mandi, and Kangra on Thursday morning. The minimum temperature at 20 major locations in the state was below five degrees Celsius. The IMD has issued an orange alert for January 23 in Lahaul Spiti, Chamba, and Kullu districts, expecting thunderstorms with winds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour and heavy snowfall.
Yellow Alert For Hailstorm, Rain In THESE Districts
A yellow alert has been issued for hailstorms and rain accompanied by thunderstorms in Mandi, Kangra, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, and Solan. Snowfall is also expected in Shimla, Manali, Kufri, Narkanda, and Solang Valley on January 23.
Daytime temperatures across the state have risen by up to three degrees Celsius. Maximum temperatures were recorded up to seven degrees Celsius above normal. The highest increase in maximum temperatures was recorded in Jubbarhatti at 3.7 degrees Celsius, followed by Neri at 2.9 degrees Celsius, Tabo at 2.7 degrees Celsius, and Hamirpur at 2.5 degrees Celsius.
The highest temperature in the state was 25.4 degrees Celsius in Neri. The minimum temperature varied by one to two degrees Celsius. Heavy snowfall and rain are expected on January 26 and 27. Light rain and snow are expected on January 24.
