Himachal Weather: Himachal Pradesh is currently witnessing a severe cold wave. For the first time, night-time temperatures were recorded below the freezing point at nine places. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast clear weather in the state until January 12. A yellow alert has been issued for dense fog in the morning and late evening in the lower and plain areas until January 10.
The lowest temperatures in the state were minus 9.4 in Tabo, minus 9.2 in Kukumseri, minus 5.2 in Kalpa, minus 2.9 in Narkanda, minus 2.0 in Reckong Peo, minus 1.4 in Manali, minus 1.3 in Kufri, minus 1.1 in Solan, and minus 0.5 degrees Celsius in Seobagh.
The minimum temperature at 24 major places was less than 5 degrees Celsius. A cold wave swept through Mandi, Bilaspur, Kangra and Hamirpur districts. There is severe cold in the plains as well as the mountains. The cold conditions are more severe in tribal and high altitude areas. Fog prevailed in many districts including Kangra.
North India Weather
IMD has forecast a cold wave in parts of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan for the next few days. As per the weather body, dense to very dense fog is likely to persist in the morning hours in parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan between January 8 and 10. Dense fog is also likely to persist in many areas of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday morning.
As per IMD, dense fog will engulf Delhi on Thursday morning. A yellow alert has been issued in this regard. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 16 degrees Celsius and 8 degrees Celsius, respectively.
