State Bureau, Shimla: The progress of monsoon has been slow for two days in Himachal Pradesh. According to the Meteorological Centre Shimla, rain activity will again intensify in the state from July 18. On July 20 and 21, heavy to very heavy rain is likely in many parts of Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Kullu, Sirmaur, Shimla districts of the state. The weather body has issued an orange alert for both days.

The Meteorological Department has appealed to the people to stay away from rivers, streams and landslide-prone areas and to follow weather-related warnings.

4 Himachal Districts On Alert On July 18 And 19

According to the Meteorological Department's forecast, a yellow alert has been issued for heavy rainfall in some areas of Kangra, Mandi, Kullu, and Chamba districts on July 18 and 19. Rainfall may intensify in many areas on July 20 and 21. An orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall will be issued for these two days.

 

Shobhit Katiyar, Director of the Meteorological Centre, Shimla, stated that the monsoon will be active again in the state between July 18 and 22. Rain is expected in most parts of the state during this period.

21 Per Cent More Rainfall In July

Meanwhile, due to weak monsoon during the past 24 hours, rainfall activity in the state remained limited. Gohar in Mandi district recorded the highest rainfall of 31 mm. This was followed by Pandoh in Mandi with 19 mm, Sarahan in Shimla district with 18 mm, and Sundernagar in Mandi with 12 mm. Light to very little rain in most areas has also caused a slight increase in temperatures.

Meanwhile, IMD has issued a warning for heavy rain in several states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh. Apart from this, there is also an alert for heavy rain in Delhi, Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, and West Bengal in the coming days. It further stated that the northeastern states such as Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are also set to receive heavy rain.
