State Bureau, New Delhi: Amid seasonal fluctuations, scattered rain is expected in Delhi on Wednesday. Some areas also saw light rain on Tuesday night. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that a few cloudy spells will continue, but significant rainfall will require a wait until July 19-20. During this time, the maximum temperature will remain below 40 degrees Celisus.

On Wednesday, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 29.1 degrees Celsius. The day's temperature is expected to hover around 37 degrees Celsius. Clouds will remain scattered throughout the day, but humidity will remain high.

Meanwhile, Delhi's AQI was recorded at 159 at 9:30 am on Wednesday. This is considered moderate. The air quality in the NCR cities was also in the satisfactory to moderate category.

IMD has forecast cloudy conditions for the next two days, however bright sunshine in the afternoon is likely to increase the humid heat.

Delhi Monsoon Stalls

The weather experts have termed this dry spell a "break monsoon". According to the experts, the break monsoon is being caused by a major shift in the monsoon trough, a low-pressure area that brings heavy clouds, moisture, and rain.

The monsoon belt has shifted toward the northern Terai region of Uttar Pradesh. Therefore, only the northern parts are receiving rainfall, while the plains are experiencing downpour scarcity. A low-pressure system that formed last week also played a role in shifting the trough northward.

A report by jagran.com cited Mahesh Palawat of Skymet Weather saying that a broken monsoon has developed across Delhi-NCR and northwest India. This has led to a sharp drop in humidity and a lack of cloud formation. Meanwhile, heavy rain continues in the eastern and northeastern parts of the country.

He added that a cyclonic circulation over Bihar, Bangladesh, and Assam draws moisture from the Bay of Bengal. A break monsoon occurs when the axis of the monsoon trough shifts toward the foothills of the Himalayas. This causes dry westerly winds to blow in the south, reducing humidity, increasing temperatures, and causing the cessation of rainfall.
