India is slowly restoring its LPG supplies amid the ongoing West Asia conflict, as several tankers have reached Indian ports. The latest vessel, Green Sanvi, has successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz through Iran’s territorial waters and is carrying over 44,000 tonnes of LPG, providing much-needed relief to households facing shortages.
How Many LPG Shipments Have Reached India Since the Conflict Began?
1. MT Shivalik – The first tanker to reach India after the conflict erupted, Shivalik left Qatar on March 7, crossed the Strait of Hormuz on March 14, and arrived at Mundra Port, Gujarat, on March 16. It was carrying 46,000 tonnes of LPG, enough to fill over 3 million domestic cylinders.
2. Nanda Devi – The second tanker arrived on March 17 at Vadinar port, Gujarat, with 46,500 tonnes of LPG after navigating the Strait of Hormuz.
3. Jag Laadki - The third tanker to arrive in India was 'Jag Laadki’, carrying around 80,886 metric tonnes (MT) of crude oil which arrived at Mundra Port in Gujarat on March 18. A day earlier, the LPG carrier ‘Nanda Devi’ arrived at Vadinar port in Gujarat’s Devbhumi Dwarka district, carrying 46,500 metric tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and navigating through the Strait of Hormuz.
4. Jag Vasant - The fourth tanker to arrive in India was Jag Vasant on March 27 carrying 47,600 tonnes of LPG. The vessel had been stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran had effectively shut down amid military strikes on neighbouring countries, according to NDTV.
5. Pine Gas – The fifth tanker, transporting 47,000 tonnes of LPG, reached Vizag on the east coast early on April 4. The vessel entered its designated offshore zone safely around 2 am, according to port officials.
6. BW Tyr – The sixth India-bound tanker arrived at Mumbai port on March 31 after departing from Dubai-Ras Al Khaimah on March 27. It carried part of a combined cargo of 94,000 tonnes shared with its companion vessel, BW Elm.
7. BW Elm – The seventh India-bound tanker arrived at New Mangalore on April 1. This tanker carried 23,860 tonnes of propane and 23,139 tonnes of butane, serving Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL). It had 28 Indian seafarers on board.
8. Green Sanvi – The latest tanker, Green Sanvi, is expected to provide crucial relief to the population, carrying over 44,000 tonnes of LPG through the Hormuz corridor.

So far, seven LPG tankers have successfully reached India, bringing in a combined total of 325,000 tonnes of LPG. However, the crisis is far from over as 17 ships linked to India are still waiting outside the Strait of Hormuz, some have stopped near Iranian ports.
