Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Police Cyber Crime Branch has arrested four men for allegedly using artificial intelligence to create deepfake videos of a businessman to bypass Aadhaar biometric verification and complete a fraudulent loan transaction without triggering any OTP alerts.
How Was The Racket Busted?
The case came to light after a city-based businessman, engaged in import-export work, noticed that he had stopped receiving OTPs from his bank for two days and alerted the police. The investigators found that the accused had managed to change the mobile number linked to his Aadhaar without OTP verification and tampered with his biometric data.

Using this access, the group opened a new bank account in his name to secure a Rs 25,000 loan and accessed his DigiLocker account to retrieve personal documents.
Ganga Used AI Tool To Create Deepfake Video And Bypass Biometric Verification
According to a report by India Today, the gang used Google's Gemini AI to generate deepfake videos of the businessman, which were then used to bypass Aadhaar biometric authentication. This allowed the gang to change the victim's registered mobile number, redirecting all OTPs to a number controlled by them.
One of the suspects, an employee at a Common Service Centre, allegedly misused his access to official systems and kits to carry out the mobile number change.
Using the victim's Aadhaar number and personal data, the group attempted to open accounts at three different banks through e-KYC. They succeeded in opening an account with Jio Payments Bank and secured a Rs 25,000 loan, the report added.
Investigators stated that they were surprised by the sophistication of the methods used in the fraud. The four arrested have been identified as Kanubhai Parmar, Ashish Vanand, Mohammad Kaif Patel, and Deep Gupta.
