Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday declared that artificial intelligence (AI) must be democratised to serve as a tool for inclusion and empowerment, with a specific focus on the Global South. Addressing the India AI Impact Summit at Bharat Mandapam, the Prime Minister emphasised that AI represents a transformative chapter in human history, one that will set the direction for global civilisation and development.
India’s Leadership In AI Revolution
The Prime Minister highlighted India’s unique position in the global tech landscape, noting that the country is not merely participating in the AI revolution but is actively leading and shaping it. He pointed out that India represents one-sixth of humanity and boasts the world's largest young population and tech talent pool.
"In the course of human history, there have been certain turning points that shaped entire centuries. These turning points set the direction of civilisation and transform the pace of development. Artificial intelligence is one such transformation in history," PM Modi stated.
Adoption And Youth Enthusiasm
Addressing skepticism surrounding emerging technologies, the PM Modi noted that India adopts new technology at an "unprecedented pace." He specifically praised the younger generation for their embrace of AI, noting the "tremendous enthusiasm" displayed during the AI Summit exhibition.
"Some people have doubts about new technology. But the way the younger generation is embracing AI is unprecedented," he added.
