Naidunia Correspondent, Indore | At least three persons were critically injured after an explosion in the Vijay Nagar area, Indore, Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday. The blast took place during the digging to access groundwater for a borewell.

Residents of Suman Nagar Colony in the Vijay Nagar area were carrying out piling for water recharging work this evening at around 4 pm. A high-pressure line belonging to Avantika Gas Company ran beneath the pit was damaged during the digging process, resulting in a huge explosion, triggering a fire incident.

According to witnesses, the blast occurred as the machine reached a depth of three meters and hit the gas pipeline. Piling had just begun, and as the machine reached a depth of three meters, an explosion occurred in the area, said a resident.

Three people who were passing by the site were injured in the sudden explosion. The residents took the injured ones to nearby Bombay Hospital. Their conditions are believed to be critical.

After the explosion, locals rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire with the help of police personnel and fire brigade officials. Several vehicles, parked near the site, caught fire. Pictures from the spot showed several burnt motorbikes.

What Aavantika Gas Ltd Said

Reacting to the incident, Aavantika Gas Ltd said it will file an FIR against those who carried out the boring digging activities without prior notice. According to company officials, a pole marker for a gas line was installed at the site where the boring was being done. "Those who carried out the boring did not inform us. We will file an FIR against the agency and those who carried out the boring," they added.

Police said the situation was brought under control, and the fire was doused by the cops. DCP Indore Zone- 2 said, "During boring work near the Jain Temple behind Mangal City in the Vijay Nagar police station area, a fire broke out in Avantika Gas's 125 mm gas pipeline. Vijay Nagar police arrived at the scene and, using their resources to carry out relief and rescue operations, managed to control the fire in time, thereby averting a potential major accident."
